MEMENTO
Timeless Memories with Memento Jewellery.
I designed those mementos in 2002 to honour and preserve the memory of loved ones long time gone. Though they may appear like jewellery, they aren't meant to be worn. Instead, they prioritize storytelling and symbolism over functionality. I created them over 20 years ago and they remained tucked away in a box. Over time, they have aged, some have oxidized. They tell their own poignant story reinforced by the aesthetic and creating a sentimental value, a special bond . Each piece is unique, crafted with intention and care, carrying layers of meaning. The textures, materials, and intricate forms invite reflection, evoking emotions. In these lies memories and creates a bridge with the past. Each piece holds a narrative and create a bond and a connections with the individuals . These pieces are designed to carry deep emotional significance, create a bridge with the past, a lasting reminder of events. They are the timeless keepsakes of those stories, preserving their memory. We don't only inherit objects but also the story of the one who owned them once.

The cocoon is a powerful symbol of transformation, growth. Here, it represents the delicate yet profound process of change, of patience, growth and self-discovery. the transition between childhood and adulthood, just as a caterpillar retreats into its cocoon to emerge as a butterfly. Here, the cocoons are opened and empty, which symbolised that the metamorphosis has happened, The child has flown away.
El encaje - En cage - In a cage
"Encaje" (the lace in Spanish) and "En cage" (in a cage in French) is a play on words. Phonetically, they sound similar but have two different meaning. However both can be ornamental, delicate restrictive and confining. In the linguistic coincidence lies an entire narrative. The metaphor of duality, represented by lace and cage, extends further into the human experience. Lace, with its intricate patterns, often symbolizes beauty, tradition, and a connection to heritage, while the cage speaks of restraint, containment, or even societal constraints. Together, they create a tension between freedom and conformity, inviting introspection on how individuals navigate these opposing forces in their personal and cultural identities. Through this linguistic interplay, "El encaje" and "En cage" become a poetic exploration of the delicate balance between self-expression and societal expectations.
The pendant lace, evokes femininity often were sewn in garment especially in a wedding veils. Conforming to an aesthetic expectations.
The cage, evokes the loss of freedom.
The inner child is sad locked inside.
